AirPods Pro 3 Review: Battery Trade-off After 6 Months

After six months of daily use, Apple's AirPods Pro 3 earbuds deliver excellent audio and ANC improvements but reveal a significant battery life trade-off. The third-generation buds feature better passive noise blocking thanks to new foam ear tips and a smaller XS size option, while the case design eliminates moving parts for improved durability. IP57 water resistance makes them more resilient than previous models.

Battery performance presents the biggest surprise in long-term testing. While music playback extends to 8 hours (up from 6), the case capacity drops from 30 to 24 hours total. For frequent travelers like the reviewer, this means more frequent charging than with the previous generation. The extra 30% earbud runtime proves valuable during long flights, but the reduced case battery creates charging anxiety on multi-day trips.

Audio quality and noise cancellation remain top-tier, with redesigned acoustic architecture delivering cleaner sound than the AirPods Pro 2. The H2 chip continues to power impressive features including Find My tracking with Precision Finding and head gesture controls. However, using the same processor as the previous generation raises questions about future capabilities and potential upgrade timing, especially with rumors suggesting a 2026 release for next-generation models featuring Apple Vision Pro gesture controls.
