YouTube suffered a major outage Tuesday night after its recommendations system failed, leaving hundreds of thousands of users staring at blank homepages and error messages. The company confirmed the issue affected its homepage feed, suggested videos, and discovery features across the platform.

Downdetector recorded 300,000 to 350,000 outage reports in the U.S. alone, with additional complaints from other regions. The disruption hit not just YouTube.com and the mobile app but also YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV logins, causing widespread problems across the entire service.

By late Tuesday night, YouTube announced the recommendations system had been restored and full service was back online. The company clarified that no videos or accounts were deleted during the outage—the system simply stopped displaying content for several hours. Engineers will now investigate what caused the recommendations engine to fail to prevent future disruptions.
