TCL has launched its NXTPAPER 70 Pro smartphone in the U.S. exclusively through T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile for $199. The device features TCL's proprietary e-paper display technology that automatically adapts to different activities while reducing eye strain through minimized glare and blue light emission. This marks TCL's first major smartphone release in the U.S. market after previous models like the NXTPAPER 60 Ultra never made it stateside.

The 6.9-inch FHD Plus display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and includes multiple viewing modes including Color Paper Mode and Ink Paper Mode. Users can switch between these using a dedicated physical NXTPAPER Key. Under the hood, the phone runs on MediaTek's Dimensity 7300 SoC with Android 16, includes AI transcription and summary tools, and features wide-angle circular polarization for comfortable viewing from different angles.

While eye-friendly displays are common on e-readers, bringing this technology to smartphones at this price point is notable. The $199 price tag positions it as an affordable option for consumers concerned about screen time and eye health. Whether this niche appeal will drive significant sales remains to be seen, but TCL's entry into the U.S. smartphone market with a unique selling proposition could attract buyers looking for alternatives to traditional displays.
