Samsung strips video filters from One UI 8.5

Reddit users flagged a missing tool in Samsung's latest One UI 8.5 update, noting that the video filters icon vanished from the Galaxy camera app. The change surfaced on the Galaxy S23 Ultra subreddit, where members confirmed the option is gone across UHD and FHD recording modes. Early adopters of the May 11 rollout reported the loss immediately.

One UI 8.5 bundles AI call screening, an AI‑powered image editor, Quick Share for iOS, and UI tweaks, so the missing filter slipped under the radar for many. Users who relied on on‑device color presets—especially black‑and‑white or vintage looks—now must edit videos in the Gallery, which compresses the file and degrades quality. Some have pledged to skip the update until Samsung restores the feature.

The omission matters because Samsung markets its flagship cameras as complete creative suites, differentiating them from competitors that still offer built‑in filters. With the Galaxy S25, S24, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Tab S11 series all slated for the same update, the loss could influence purchasing decisions for users who value quick, on‑phone video styling. Samsung has not issued a comment.
