Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display: Innovation at a Steep Cost

Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a groundbreaking Privacy Display, a unique OLED panel design that separates pixels into wide-angle and narrow-angle types to hide content from most viewing angles. This feature, activated via software, offers granular control over which apps or content are obscured. However, this innovation comes with significant trade-offs. Samsung's display is at least 300 nits dimmer at peak brightness compared to the S25 Ultra, a direct consequence of turning off half the pixels.

This reduction impacts brightness, resolution, color richness, and anti-reflective performance, making the screen noticeably less vibrant and crisp than competitors. The pixel structure also introduces potential eye strain for some users, creating a new category of display discomfort.
