Samsung Foldable Charging Speed Upgrade Confirmed for Galaxy Z Fold 8

Samsung is reportedly preparing to upgrade the charging speed of its next-generation foldable phones, according to regulatory filings. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Wide Fold are expected to support 45W fast charging, marking the first significant upgrade in nearly six years for Samsung's foldable lineup. This development comes after the company boosted the Galaxy S26 Ultra's charging speed to 60W this year, signaling a push towards faster wired charging across its devices. While the battery capacity remains unchanged at 5000mAh, the potential 45W upgrade represents a major step forward for Samsung's foldables, which have historically lagged behind in charging speeds compared to their non-foldable counterparts.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8, however, appears set to maintain the 25W charging speed seen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. This means Samsung's clamshell-style foldable will not receive a wired charging upgrade this year. The regulatory filings, spotted by SammyGuru on China's 3C database, provide concrete evidence for the rumoured upgrades, though Samsung has not officially confirmed the details. If realized, the 45W charging on the Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold would finally bring Samsung's foldables in line with the faster charging speeds now common in its non-foldable Galaxy S series.

This upgrade, coupled with the rumoured larger 5000mAh battery for the Z Fold 8, could significantly improve the user experience for Samsung's foldables, addressing a long-standing criticism about their charging limitations. The move suggests Samsung is finally prioritizing faster wired charging for its premium foldable devices after years of stagnation at 25W, potentially making its foldables more competitive with offerings from other manufacturers.
