Google's Pixel Watch 5 is an iterative update over its predecessor, but it brings genuinely intriguing improvements like on-device Gemini for offline use, major GPS-tracking enhancements, and continued focus on durability. Starting at $399.99, it's available for pre-order today and ships Aug 20.

The new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip delivers a 12 percent boost in processing power, and with a 50 percent increase in RAM, performance is about 20 percent faster. Offline Gemini allows faster assistant responses, even beating Apple Watch Series 11 in a timer demo. The proactive intelligence system surfaces context-aware suggestions on the watch face.

GPS route-tracking claims to be twice as accurate as previous models, using Google's network of reference stations and 3D building models. Google says it's more accurate than Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro. New health features include blood pressure and insulin resistance trend analysis via Health Guardian, launching in September.

Other updates: generative watch faces, workout builder in the Health app, and Breathing emergency detection for loss of pulse alerts. The design remains similar to Pixel Watch 4, maintaining excellent repairability.
