Pixel Fold cover screen goes black after recent updates

Owners of the first‑generation Pixel Fold are reporting that the external cover display stays black after boot. Users say the screen powers on briefly to show the Google logo, then goes dark, while the main display functions normally. The problem surfaced after recent software updates, with several Reddit posts describing the issue as random but now persistent and affects warranty claims.

One complainant traced the blackout to the May patch, which only added a charging fix for current Pixel models. Another user experienced a boot loop after the April update, able to start the phone only in Tent Mode, where the inner screen works but the cover remains unresponsive. Both cases note no physical damage, pointing to a software glitch and may require a firmware rollback.

Google has not issued an official statement or a dedicated fix, leaving support tickets as the only recourse. The issue revives concerns from earlier Pixel Fold bugs, such as sticky scrolling on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and threatens confidence in the company's rollout process. A timely software patch will be required to restore functionality for affected owners for the device's resale value.
