Google Pixel 11 Pro Review: Pricey Improvements

The Google Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL offer a true choice of sizes without compromise between models, but come with notable drawbacks. Camera hardware improvements are solid over the Pixel 10 Pro, with Magic Capture standing out as one of the best camera features available. New Gemini features like Rambler enhance the Android experience significantly. However, Pixel phones have become too expensive, and this year's $100+ price increase worsens the situation. The devices ship with less RAM than last year, a GPU that still doesn't support the latest Vulkan APIs, and poor PWM rate on displays.

Despite featuring smaller batteries and slower charging speeds compared to predecessors, the Tensor G6 chip shows efficiency improvements. Performance benchmarks indicate the GPU performs better than last year but still lags behind competition. Cell coverage improvements are minimal, with similar dropped call issues as the Pixel 10 series.

Camera upgrades include fine detail capture, improved food portrait mode, and elimination of previous artifacts. However, telephoto performance remains disappointing. The new 120x zoom works well in some scenarios but isn't practical for regular use. Selfie camera quality has notably improved.

Overall, while new features like Magic Capture, Creator Suite, and instant Night Sight are compelling, hardware compromises and pricing make these devices hard to recommend despite software improvements.
