OPPO and MediaTek unveiled Omni during MWC 2026, positioning it as the industry's first on-device full-modal AI model designed for multi-modal understanding and interaction. The feature allows AI to perceive physical environments and provide interactive Q&A sessions through voice, video, and text inputs. This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing on-device AI capabilities for smartphones.

During MediaTek's "AI for Life" keynote, OPPO demonstrated how Omni works alongside AI Portrait Glow, which enhances photos taken in challenging lighting conditions. The companies emphasized their shared vision for progressing AI phones with the latest innovations. MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 chip reportedly provides performance comparable to cloud-based solutions while maintaining privacy-conscious, low-latency experiences.

OPPO announced that these features will arrive on the Find X9 series, which will also gain Android's Quick Share functionality through MediaTek and Google's collaboration. This enables file transfers between OPPO devices and Apple's iOS products. The showcase reflects how foundational AI has become on Android, with IDC estimating that over 37% of phones shipped this year may be Gen AI-enabled, potentially growing at 32% annually over the next five years.
