Google TV is rolling out major updates just in time for the World Cup, launching an enhanced Sports topic page that aggregates live matches, highlights, and post-game content. The update pulls coverage from streaming services including Tubi, FOX One, and YouTube, giving viewers access to ongoing games and schedules from June 11 through July 19.

Alongside the sports integration, Google is bringing Gemini voice control capabilities to select TCL Google TV models in the U.S. Users can adjust picture modes, modify audio settings, and troubleshoot display issues using voice commands. Supported models include QM9K, X11L, QM9L, QM8L, and RM9L, though the rollout could take a few weeks to complete.

This follows Google's earlier introduction of Sports Briefs and Deep Dives features, which provided digestible sports headlines and topic exploration. The timing aligns with peak World Cup viewing, though subscription services like FOX One will require paid access while free options like Tubi remain available.

The combination of live sports aggregation and AI-driven voice controls represents Google's push to make its TV platform more competitive against Roku and Apple TV. These updates arrive as streaming wars intensify and viewers demand more integrated experiences across their entertainment services.
