Google Tensor G6: Key Upgrades & AI Boost

Google's Tensor G6, powering the Pixel 11 lineup, introduces several notable upgrades that address past performance gaps.

The new SoC swaps the older 3‑nm process for the same node but incorporates Arm's latest ARM C1‑Ultra and C1‑Pro cores, arranged in a seven‑core configuration that frees space for the TPU. The MediaTek M90 modem replaces the Samsung unit used in previous models, delivering a more reliable connection and lower power draw. Google also adds a new Titan M3 security chip and a vapor‑chamber cooling system available on Pro variants.

In terms of software, the Tensor G6 claims a 25 % faster browsing experience and up to 20 % better power efficiency over its predecessor. The GPU remains a Power VR CXTP, so gaming performance stays similar to the G5, with throttling still a concern for sustained play. However, the 50 % more powerful TPU powers Gemini Intelligence, Instant Night Sight, 120× zoom, and Live Translate, reinforcing Google’s focus on on‑device AI. Overall, the Tensor G6 improves everyday tasks and AI features, though it still lags behind Qualcomm and MediaTek rivals in raw gaming power.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL offers the best balance of color, camera, and performance, making it the top choice among the four Pixel 11 models.
