Google adds real‑source links to AI Search Mode

Google is rolling out a suite of upgrades to its AI Search Mode aimed at boosting trust and discovery. The changes add richer follow‑up prompts that suggest alternate angles on a query, surface more real‑world perspectives from forums and social media, and embed additional links directly within the AI‑generated answer. Users can also expand the result set with a single tap, revealing related articles and data charts.

Beyond suggestions, the update makes subscribed news feeds instantly reachable inside search results, letting users tap content they already pay for without leaving the page. On desktop, hovering over the new inline links reveals a preview of the source, while mobile displays a compact card. The preview also flags credibility, aiding quick trust decisions. This tighter integration aims to keep users within Google's ecosystem.

Google’s earnings call earlier this year noted a steady climb in traffic routed through AI Mode, confirming that users favor the conversational format. By weaving verifiable sources and clearer pathways into answers, the company hopes to counter criticism over hallucinated content and reinforce its position as the default gateway to the web.
