Sony's 2FA system frequently fails to send SMS verification codes, locking users out of the PlayStation app on Android. After being unable to receive authentication texts for days, I discovered a workaround that bypasses 2FA entirely using a passkey.

To regain access, open the PlayStation app, tap Sign In, enter your email, then select Trouble Signing In? instead of entering your password. Choose Recover Your Account, enter your email on the recovery portal, and when the password reset email arrives, opt to set up a passkey instead of a new password. This automatically disables two-factor authentication.

Once the passkey is configured—stored in your password manager—you can sign in instantly without relying on SMS codes. This method also works if you've lost your backup codes, which Sony recommends as the standard fallback.

Previously, PS4 and PS5 users could authenticate directly on their consoles when SMS failed, but that option has been removed. The passkey solution provides a reliable alternative for PSN account access across devices.
