Chrome tablet bug sparks outage across Android devices

Reddit users report a baffling Chrome error that renders the browser unusable on Android tablets. The app repeatedly shows a “You can have up to 5 windows” notice and refuses to launch. The problem first appeared on a Galaxy Tab A11 Plus, and several other devices quickly followed. Users tried clearing cache, data and rebooting, but none resolved the glitch still.

Google has logged the bug in its IssueTracker and a Chrome team member is asking for device details. Reports span Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus, S9 FE, Lenovo Tab M11 and Xiaomi Pad 6, with Samsung models forming the majority. No official fix exists, though rolling back Chrome updates via the Play Store temporarily restores functionality at the cost of clearing saved data for now.

With Chrome crippled, many tablet owners are forced to switch to alternative browsers, undermining the consistency Google promised across Android devices. The outage arrives as Google touts new tablet‑focused features from I/O 2026, highlighting the mismatch between marketing and real‑world stability. Until a patched version ships, users must rely on other browsers for reliable web access on their primary devices today.
