WhatsApp beta tests Liquid Glass redesign on iPad with floating sidebar

Meta's WhatsApp is expanding its Liquid Glass redesign to iPad, with beta testers now seeing the updated interface on iPadOS. The design overhaul, which began rolling out to iPhone users last month after launching in October, brings a more modern aesthetic to Apple's tablet platform. WABeta Info spotted the changes in the latest beta build, showing WhatsApp's commitment to updating all Apple platforms consistently.

The most noticeable change on iPad is the floating Chats sidebar that appears semi-transparent rather than flat against the screen edge. The bottom tab bar now hovers above the interface, while the top navigation bar gradually becomes transparent as users scroll through their chat list. Buttons throughout the app feature the signature frosted glass appearance with fluid tap animations, matching the iPhone implementation.

On Mac, WhatsApp started testing Liquid Glass earlier this month alongside the macOS 26 redesign, adding a sidebar with text labels, updated chat bar, refreshed attachment menu, and locked chats section. However, Apple plans to drop text labels in macOS 27 Golden Gate, creating an interesting divergence between platforms.

Access to the iPad redesign remains extremely limited in the current beta phase, with broader rollout expected to expand gradually over coming weeks. WhatsApp hasn't provided an official timeline for when these changes will reach all users across iPad and Mac platforms.
