Meta is expanding WhatsApp's AI capabilities with a document sharing feature currently rolling out to iOS beta testers. The update, found in WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.20.10.72, adds document upload options to the in-chat attachment menu, allowing users to send files directly to Meta AI for analysis.

Currently, Meta AI within WhatsApp only processes photos taken or selected from the iPhone gallery. This limitation forces users to take screenshots of documents or manually copy text when they want AI assistance with spreadsheets or PDFs. The new document sharing feature addresses this gap by enabling direct file uploads through the familiar attachment interface.

According to WABetaInfo, beta testers can now share documents without copying and pasting text, letting the AI analyze files contextually for more targeted responses. The feature matches what's already available in WhatsApp's Android beta, suggesting Meta is standardizing the experience across platforms.

While the rollout has begun for select users, Meta hasn't provided a timeline for when this feature will reach the stable version of WhatsApp. Like many WhatsApp features, it may take weeks or months before general availability, leaving regular users waiting for the enhanced document analysis capabilities.
