The project draws inspiration from Rainer Maria Rilke's 'Letters to a Young Poet,' one of Jobs' favorite books, and reflects his own practice of exchanging ideas to gain clarity. Contributors include Bob Iger, Paola Antonelli, Jon M. Chu, and Es Devlin, among others.

In his submission, Cook recounts his first conversation with Jobs in 1998, describing how the Apple co-founder's passion and vision instantly dissolved any doubts about joining a struggling company.
