Siri AI Delayed in EU Due to Digital Markets Act

Apple has confirmed that its new iOS 27 Siri AI features will not launch simultaneously in the European Union, blaming the Digital Markets Act for the delay. iPhone and iPad users in the EU will wait longer for Siri AI, while the features will arrive on Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Watch in the region. The company directly attributes this regulatory discrepancy to EU gatekeeper requirements that don't apply to those other platforms.

The EU won't permit Siri AI's full functionality until third-party providers can access similar user data and system capabilities. Apple developed a "Trusted System Agent" to coordinate sensitive data access, but EU regulators rejected the proposal. Apple's Senior Vice President Craig Federighi expressed disappointment, stating they cannot guarantee data privacy for all potential AI providers seeking equivalent integration.

Siri AI's delayed EU availability impacts several key features including updated writing tools and Camera app integration. Despite months of negotiation, Apple and EU regulators remain at an impasse. The company offers no timeline for resolving the dispute, leaving European customers without access to the same Siri experiences as the rest of the world.
