Signal's latest iOS update enhances its multi-device functionality, allowing users to link another iPhone to their existing Signal account. Previously, secondary mobile devices were limited to iPads.

This expansion means iPhone users can now connect a second iPhone, in addition to iPads and desktop devices like Macs. The linking process is end-to-end encrypted, utilizing the same "link-and-sync" technology already in place. Users have the option to transfer their complete message history and the last 45 days of saved media during this process.

The new feature is particularly beneficial for individuals using separate personal and work iPhones or those who test multiple devices. It also brings Signal's cross-device experience more in line with Apple's Messages ecosystem. Signal version 8.22 for iOS is currently rolling out on the App Store. The company also recently introduced usernames, enabling users to connect without sharing phone numbers.
