Plex is raising the price of its Lifetime Plex Pass from $249.99 to $749.99 effective July 1, 2026. The company gave existing customers a six‑week window to snag the current rate before the hike. While monthly and annual Plex Pass tiers stay at $6.99 and $69.99 per year, the one‑time option now costs three times more for home media enthusiasts and reflects rising costs.

Plex said the bump reflects the “real, ongoing value” of the platform after years of development. Earlier blog posts revealed the company flirted with retiring the Lifetime tier, citing the stability of recurring subscriptions. Instead, it chose to keep the offering, positioning the new price as a premium choice for power users who prefer a single upfront payment.

Current Lifetime holders face no changes; their accounts remain active under the old terms. The steep increase may push most users toward the cheaper subscription plans, but a minority could still purchase before the deadline to avoid the hike. Either way, Plex’s move underscores a broader industry shift toward subscription revenue over one‑off sales in the streaming market.
