OpenAI puts Codex inside ChatGPT mobile app for remote coding control

OpenAI has folded Codex remote access directly into the ChatGPT mobile app, letting iPhone, iPad, and Android users manage coding tasks from their phones. Codex runs locally on a Mac but streams live state — threads, approvals, plugins, and project context — back to the phone in real time.

The setup pairs the two apps via a QR code scanned from mobile ChatGPT into the Codex desktop sidebar. Users can approve commands, review terminal output and diffs, switch models, or start new prompts without touching the computer. Files, credentials, and local setups never leave the machine where Codex operates.

This rollout follows Codex's Mac launch in February and recent additions like GPT-5.5. Windows support is on the roadmap. OpenAI's push to make Codex a mobile-friendly workflow tool reflects its ambition to blur the line between cloud AI and local development environments.
