OpenAI expands Codex to Windows via ChatGPT mobile apps

OpenAI rolled out a fresh update to the ChatGPT iOS and Android apps, adding the ability to launch Codex sessions on Windows machines. The move follows a Mac‑only remote‑control rollout earlier this month, extending the same “Computer Use” capability to PC users. Users can now start a Windows‑based Codex task from their phone and watch it run remotely.

The desktop release notes list two headline features. “Computer Use” now works on Windows, letting Codex see, click and type within foreground applications. Remote control was broadened so a Windows device can be commanded from ChatGPT on iOS, Android, or a Mac running Codex, with progress visible across platforms. A revamped Profile tab shows usage stats and token activity, while performance tweaks improve stability.

These additions push the mobile‑first Codex experience toward full desktop parity, reducing the need to toggle between devices for routine automation or UI testing. By unifying control under a single chat interface, OpenAI trims workflow friction for developers and power users who rely on AI‑assisted coding across Windows and macOS environments. The update cements Codex as a cross‑platform productivity hub.
