OpenAI Adds Mobile Remote Control to Codex Coding Agent

OpenAI has brought its Codex coding agent to the ChatGPT mobile app, giving iPhone and Android users remote access to coding sessions running on a Mac. The integration lets developers monitor and control Codex tasks from their phones while the actual work continues on their desktop machine.

Setup requires updating both the Codex Mac app and ChatGPT mobile app, then selecting the new "Codex mobile" section in the Mac interface and scanning a QR code with the phone. Once connected, users can pick up active chats, receive notifications when Codex finishes tasks or needs input, and start new tasks directly from the mobile app. Reviewing outputs, approving commands, and switching between models all work from the phone.

Files and credentials stay on the Mac where Codex runs, while screenshots, terminal output, and test results flow to the phone in real time. OpenAI cautions users to only pair devices they own and trust since Codex will access the desktop's files, apps, and browser to complete phone-sent tasks. Windows support for remote access is coming soon.
