OpenAI Fixes Mac App Chat Access

OpenAI has updated its recently redesigned ChatGPT app for Mac, addressing user complaints about difficulty accessing chat functions following a controversial overhaul. The previous native Mac client was replaced with a larger, Electron-based app that initially confused users by relegating the standard chat experience to a less prominent button.

Users expressed frustration with the interface, particularly the prominent drop-down for switching between Codex and Work, while the main chat feature opened a floating window lacking conversation history or Projects. Following widespread criticism on community forums and social media, Thibault “Tibo” Sottiaux, leading the app's unification efforts, promised improvements.

The new update allows users to switch between Chat and Work via a prominent toggle at the top of the window. A sidebar drop-down menu now enables selection between regular ChatGPT and Codex. While the interface remains somewhat complex, direct access to the chatbot for standard chat functions is restored.
