Apple's MacBook Neo topped both the M5 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in launch quarter sales, according to an IDC report obtained by TechCrunch. The Neo shipped 1.1 million units in Q1 2026, making it the company's bestselling new laptop model during its initial weeks on the market.

All three laptops launched on March 11, but the Neo's numbers significantly outpaced its siblings. The M5 MacBook Air shipped 900,000 units while the M5 MacBook Pro moved just 550,000 units during their respective debut quarters. However, legacy MacBook Air models likely kept that line ahead overall for the full period.

IDC analyst Singh forecasts a "very big spike" in Neo shipments during the current quarter as Apple works through supply constraints and expands availability. This projection suggests the Neo could surpass all Mac models to become Apple's overall bestselling computer if supply issues are resolved.

The sales data reveals Apple's strategy of offering distinct price and performance tiers is effectively reaching different market segments. The Neo's aggressive positioning appears to be challenging the traditional Air and Pro hierarchy that has dominated Apple's laptop lineup for years.
