M6 MacBook Pro redesign: OLED, Touchscreen, and more

Apple is preparing a major overhaul of the MacBook Pro lineup with the M6 generation, featuring a thinner and lighter design. The redesign marks the first major change since 2021 and includes several significant upgrades. According to Bloomberg, this will be a "total redesign" that maintains sufficient cooling capabilities after previous thermal issues.

Under the hood, the M6 MacBook Pro will feature new M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max chips built on a 2nm process. These chips promise larger-than-usual performance gains and may debut alongside the iPhone's A20 Pro chip. The lineup will also introduce the Mac's first touchscreen, positioning touch as a secondary input method rather than replacing the keyboard and trackpad.

The display gets a major upgrade with OLED technology, offering truer blacks, better contrast, and improved off-angle viewing. The notch will be replaced by a hole-punch camera cutout with Dynamic Island functionality, similar to iPhone's implementation. A wildcard feature could be cellular connectivity using Apple's C2 modem, though this may not arrive until 2026.
