A trademark lawsuit filed by iyO against OpenAI and Jony Ive has been temporarily paused as the parties enter settlement talks. U.S. District Judge Trina L. Thompson granted a seven-day stay, pushing a hearing originally scheduled for July 28, 2026, to September 8, 2026.

iyO initially sued OpenAI and Ive’s io Products startup, alleging trademark infringement shortly after OpenAI announced its acquisition of Ive's company to develop AI devices. The complaint was later amended to include trade secret claims, with iyO asserting that io Products' co-founder Tang Tan improperly acquired confidential information.

The parties informed Judge Thompson that they have reached an agreement in principle and requested the pause to finalize the settlement details. They are required to file either a dismissal request or a joint status report by August 6, 2026. If a settlement is not finalized, the preliminary injunction hearing concerning the use of the "io" branding will proceed on September 8.
