iPhone 18 Pro Sticks with Aluminum Alloy Despite Scratch Concerns

Apple will continue using aluminum alloy for the iPhone 18 Pro chassis, according to leaker Fixed Focus Digital. This material choice follows the iPhone 17 Pro's transition away from titanium, bringing both benefits and drawbacks to the upcoming flagship models.

The aluminum alloy excels at heat dissipation and performs well in durability tests. Unlike titanium predecessors, the softer material shows more visible wear over time. Some iPhone 17 Pro owners reported increased scuffing and scratching, particularly around the camera plateau area.

Apple clarified that many apparent scratches on demo units actually stem from worn MagSafe charging stands in retail stores, causing material transfer rather than actual damage. The company noted these marks clean off easily, though raised camera edges remain vulnerable to normal wear and tear.

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup will maintain this same material strategy, offering solid thermal performance but requiring more careful handling. Four color options will be available when the devices launch, giving buyers aesthetic choices despite the durability trade-offs.
