Apple is reportedly planning significant refinements to its Liquid Glass design in iOS 27, which will debut on June 8. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the update could address current limitations in how users customize the transparent aesthetic across their devices.

One major potential addition involves a systemwide slider that would let users fine-tune transparency and contrast levels. Currently, iOS 26 only offers binary Clear or Tinted options in Settings under Display & Brightness. Apple reportedly built this slider for the lock screen clock but encountered engineering obstacles when extending it to app folders, home screens, and navigation bars.

Beyond the slider, Gurman expects minor iterative improvements rather than sweeping redesigns. These would address user frustrations with iOS 26's interface, particularly in Music and Podcasts apps where the MiniPlayer often shrinks and key controls become inaccessible. Navigation tab bars that minimize unexpectedly also draw criticism.

If successful, these enhancements could transform user perception of Liquid Glass, which currently feels like an incomplete implementation. The ability to dial in precise visual preferences would give users meaningful control over an aesthetic that has divided opinion since iOS 17's initial introduction.
