Apple rolls out iOS 27 with a built‑in wallpaper creator, letting users generate full‑screen images without leaving the Settings app. Access the feature via Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper or by long‑pressing the lock screen and tapping the ‘+’ button. The new Image Playground entry appears at the top of the gallery, alongside AI‑generated suggestions.

The overhaul of Image Playground gives the AI model far fewer constraints, allowing prompts that specify style, reference a personal photo, or even target a specific person. Once generated, the picture is automatically sized for any iPhone display, eliminating the need for manual cropping. Apple also populates the Featured section with AI‑styled versions of the user’s own photos.

By embedding generative AI directly into the wallpaper picker, Apple turns a cosmetic tweak into a practical personalization tool, reducing reliance on third‑party apps. The move signals Apple’s broader push to integrate AI across iOS, and users can now refresh their lock screens with bespoke designs in seconds.

Early beta testers report that the AI‑generated wallpapers retain sharp detail on both Pro and standard models, and the on‑device processing respects privacy guidelines. With iOS 27 shipping later this year, the feature arrives alongside other AI enhancements, positioning the iPhone as a more creative platform than its Android rivals.
