iOS 26.5 beta has arrived without the much-anticipated Gemini-powered Siri and Apple Intelligence features, signaling Apple's strategic shift to concentrate its AI advancements on iOS 27. The beta release follows Apple's timeline but omits the upgraded AI capabilities that developers and consumers eagerly await. Apple's versioning system now references the upcoming year, with iOS 26 currently serving as the operating system foundation.

Apple first announced Apple Intelligence in June 2024, rolling out various features across iOS 18.1 through 18.4. However, Personal Intelligence and certain in-app action features never materialized in the iOS 18 cycle. The tech giant delayed its enhanced Siri by one year on March 7, 2025, and later announced a collaboration with Google in January 2026 to integrate Gemini technology into its AI ecosystem.

The absence of AI features in iOS 26.5 aligns with reports suggesting Apple spread these capabilities across future updates rather than releasing them in iOS 26.4. WWDC 2026, scheduled for June 8 at Apple Park in Cupertino, will likely serve as the platform for unveiling iOS 27 and its AI enhancements. Apple appears to be dedicating resources to ensuring the new features meet quality standards before release.
