Apple Fixes GarageBand Icon for macOS Tahoe

Apple has rolled out GarageBand 10.4.14 for macOS Tahoe, finally giving the app an icon that matches the system’s rounded‑rectangle design. The update removes the gray compatibility overlay that had forced the icon to fit a non‑native shape, a long‑awaited fix for Mac users across all recent releases.

GarageBand’s new build also bumps its minimum OS requirement from macOS 14.4 to 15.6, aligning it with the latest macOS version. Release notes list only stability tweaks and bug fixes, but the icon overhaul signals Apple’s shift toward a consistent visual language after the 2025 macOS Tahoe launch.

The update comes amid Apple’s broader push toward its paid Creator Studio suite, which bundles Logic and other pro tools for $12.99/month or $129/year after a trial. GarageBand remains free, but the icon fix may hint at a gradual convergence between free and paid offerings.

With the icon updated, GarageBand now looks native on any Mac, reducing visual clutter and aligning with iOS and iPadOS aesthetics. The tweak may seem minor, yet it reflects Apple’s attention to detail and its strategy to keep legacy apps in sync with new OS designs. Users can download the patch today.
