iOS 26.4 Brings Blood Oxygen Back to Health Vitals

Apple has reintroduced Blood Oxygen tracking to the Health app's Vitals chart with iOS 26.4 beta 1, restoring functionality that was removed in January 2024 due to a patent dispute with Masimo. The metric now appears alongside heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, and sleep duration in the comprehensive Vitals overview.

This marks the return of a feature that Apple had redesigned last August but kept separate from the main Vitals display. The company initially pulled the feature from Apple Watch following legal challenges but later released a modified version that required users to view readings on their iPhone rather than directly on the watch. The Vitals chart now displays five key health metrics simultaneously.

The update also enhances sleep tracking by adding a two-week bedtime breakdown. Users can now view their average bedtime alongside the previous night's sleep schedule in a new Sleep Highlight section. These improvements to Apple Health demonstrate the company's ongoing efforts to consolidate health data and provide users with more comprehensive wellness insights through their iOS devices.
