iOS 26.4 adds smart list for urgent reminders

Apple is enhancing its Reminders app in iOS 26.4 with a dedicated smart list for 'Urgent' reminders. This feature, which launched in iOS 26.2, lets users mark tasks with due times as urgent, triggering alarms and Live Activities when deadlines approach. The new smart list consolidates all urgent tasks in one place, regardless of their assigned lists.

Previously, urgent reminders worked well but lacked centralized organization. Users could snooze alarms for nine minutes or dismiss them, with Live Activities providing visual alerts. However, finding all urgent tasks required checking multiple lists. The dedicated smart list solves this by creating a unified view of time-sensitive tasks, making it easier to prioritize work with hard deadlines.

For heavy Reminders users, this addition significantly improves task management. When today's list becomes overwhelming, switching to the urgent view instantly shows only tasks requiring immediate attention. This organizational enhancement builds on the already thoughtful implementation of urgent reminders, which addressed common pain points like missed deadlines and forgotten tasks. The feature demonstrates Apple's continued refinement of built-in productivity tools.
