FaceTime gets dual‑camera boost in iOS 27

Apple’s iOS 27 adds a Dual Camera mode to FaceTime, available on iPhone 17 series. Users can tap Flip to show front and rear views simultaneously, default keeping front active. Both callers must run iOS 27 to enable the feature; older devices can still receive the stream. 9to5Mac’s Fernando Silva and Jeff Benjamin confirmed the workflow in the iOS 27 beta, noting the transition feels smooth.

The Dual Camera builds on the Dual Capture tool introduced with the iPhone 17 lineup last fall, which let the front Center Stage lens record alongside the rear camera. Extending that to live calls gives users the ability to showcase a product, scenery, or documents without switching cameras, tightening the gap between video chat and dedicated recording apps.

iOS 27 also refreshes Messages, Notes, and Wallet, but the FaceTime upgrade stands out as the most visible change for power users. By allowing simultaneous front‑rear streams, Apple nudges video conferencing toward a more versatile, content‑rich experience. Predict that Apple’s move could force Zoom and Microsoft Teams to add dual‑camera options in updates.
