OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Teens, an AI experience designed to help teenagers learn, think critically, and use AI with confidence. The service activates automatically when OpenAI estimates a user is between 13 and 17 years old or when age is directly stated.

Key features include Study Mode with guiding questions and step-by-step support, responsible homework reminders that redirect teens toward collaborative problem solving, Quizzes and Learning Visualizations for practice and concept clarity, and Study Hours to help establish better study routines.

Safety measures are built into the default experience for users under 18, applying age-appropriate safeguards to reduce exposure to harmful or developmentally inappropriate content. Parental controls allow linked accounts to set Quiet Hours, manage settings, and receive safety notifications for high-risk situations including eating disorder alerts.

Additional teen-focused protections include sensitive-image upload reminders, teen-specific onboarding introducing safety features, and customization options like accent colors and voice variations to personalize the experience without creating emotional attachment.
