Harvard researchers used more than 94,000 nights of Apple Watch sleep data to map how sleep shifts during perimenopause. The study drew from 338 participants of the Apple Women’s Health Study, most between 45 and 59.

Analysis found a 7% average rise in wake‑after‑sleep‑onset over 18 months before menopause, and participants logged 0.8% more wake time after their final period.

Symptoms linked to poorer sleep included bladder, joint, heart discomfort and depression. The team recommends a cool bedroom, steady schedule, regular movement, reduced bladder irritants, and mindfulness practices to improve rest.

These findings illustrate how consumer wearables can supply large‑scale health data, offering clinicians better tools to support women through menopause. The study underscores the value of integrating everyday tech into medical research.
