Apple Watch Running Challenge Returns for Global Running Day

Apple is running a Global Running Day Activity Challenge on June 3, rewarding Apple Watch owners who log at least 5K (3.1 miles) during the event. The challenge requires using the Workout app or any compatible fitness app that syncs workouts to Health, keeping the barrier to entry low but participation clear.

Finish the run and you earn a dedicated award in the Fitness app plus animated stickers for the Messages app. This marks Apple's third straight year of celebrating Global Running Day with a dedicated challenge, following last year's Earth Day and International Dance Day events.

With the 5K threshold set low, the challenge is designed for broad participation rather than athletic performance. Each annual running day event reinforces Apple Watch's place in the fitness tracking ecosystem, giving users a built-in reason to open the app and stay active.
