Apple Upgrade Could Signal End of ACMI

Apple has introduced Apple Upgrade, a new leasing program that replaces the iPhone Upgrade Program. The deal is so attractive that there’s little incentive to use ACMI.

Apple Upgrade offers 3% cash back, longer payment terms, and the option to buy the device at the end by paying the difference between the lease cost and the MSRP. It’s also partnered with Klarna, not JPMorgan Chase.

With the upcoming transition of the Apple Card’s banking partner from Goldman Sachs to JPMorgan Chase (early 2028), Apple’s website indicates users can continue using ACMI for now, but the phrasing suggests uncertainty for the future.

Given the lack of interest or fees on the leasing program, it’s unclear whether banks will support it long‑term, which could affect ACMI’s longevity.
