Apple Upgrade: A Great Deal?

Apple has launched a new leasing program, Apple Upgrade, for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Despite some skepticism, particularly given recent price increases on Apple products, the program offers a compelling advantage: users will never pay more than the original list price for a device.

With lease terms ranging from 12 to 36 months, Apple Upgrade allows for low monthly payments with no down payment, security deposit, interest, or additional fees. At the end of the lease, users have the option to purchase the device. The buyout price is calculated as the original list price minus the total lease payments made. For example, a base model iPhone 17 Pro, costing $1,099, could be leased for $31.99 over 24 months, totaling approximately $770. The remaining buyout cost would then be around $330.

This effectively allows users to acquire Apple products interest-free over time. While perpetually leasing for upgrades might be more expensive long-term, Apple Upgrade presents an accessible new way to purchase devices. The program's structure offers a significant benefit by capping the total cost at the original list price.
