Apple has filed a request for a preliminary injunction in its trade‑secrets lawsuit against OpenAI. Without the injunction Apple says it will suffer irreparable harm. In the filing Apple sent a letter after filing the initial lawsuit last month, stating its intention to seek injunctive relief.

Apple outlined five actions that OpenAI must take: stop accessing Apple’s confidential information, halt any ongoing use or disclosure, preserve all evidence, allow forensic inspections of devices and accounts, and search OpenAI’s systems for any Apple confidential information. OpenAI agreed to the first three but not the last two, prompting Apple to ask the court to grant the injunction.

Apple wants the judge to immediately stop OpenAI from using or obtaining any Apple trade secrets, preserve evidence, permit forensic inspections, and recover any Apple confidential information still in OpenAI’s possession. Apple claims every day without an injunction lets OpenAI embed stolen knowledge into its hardware development, making the damage harder to undo.

Apple also filed a motion to expedite discovery, including early document production and depositions of key OpenAI employees. The hearing is set for Oct. 1, 2026. OpenAI responded with a blog post criticizing the lawsuit as “careless, aggressive and oddly personal.”
