Apple Seeks Pause in Epic Games Lawsuit

Apple is asking a federal judge to halt proceedings in its ongoing legal dispute with Epic Games. The company wants to pause the case while the Supreme Court reviews a related contempt finding.

Last month, the Supreme Court agreed to examine whether Apple violated a 2021 injunction. The injunction required Apple to allow developers to link to outside payment options. Apple began allowing these links but still charged a 27% commission on resulting transactions. A judge later ruled this violated the injunction, holding Apple in contempt.

Apple argues that the lower court's contempt finding, which is the basis for the current remand proceedings, is under review by the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court overturns the contempt finding, Apple contends it would be inefficient to continue lower court proceedings regarding commission rates. Epic Games has until July 10 to respond to Apple's motion.
