Apple released the third developer beta for iOS 26.6 on Tuesday, continuing work on the upcoming iPhone update while iOS 27 dominates pre-release attention. Beta testing started in late May, positioning this as a refinement release ahead of the fall public launch.

Two changes stand out in this beta: modifications to the contact blocking limit and what appears to be a new anti-theft iPhone feature. Apple also seems to be preparing the Spotlight index that Siri AI will use in iOS 27, though major feature additions are unlikely as focus shifts to the next major version.

iOS 26.6 will serve as the next stable release, building on iOS 26 and subsequent updates since last fall. Historically, iOS 18.6 beta appeared after iOS 26 beta 1, but iOS 26.6 is running slightly ahead of Apple's typical release cycle. Consumers can expect the update in September.

Users will receive stability and security improvements, including the anti-theft capability that addresses growing smartphone theft concerns. While not revolutionary, this maintenance update keeps devices current ahead of the iOS 27 transition.
