In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice initiated an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, alleging a "smartphone monopoly." Apple has repeatedly expressed opposition to the case over the past two years.

A recent Bloomberg report indicates that the DOJ and Apple are currently engaged in settlement discussions. Apple has reportedly submitted multiple offers this year in an attempt to resolve the lawsuit. However, the report cautions that these discussions may not result in an agreement.

The DOJ's lawsuit targets five key areas: super apps, cloud streaming games, third-party messaging, third-party smartwatches, and third-party digital wallets. Apple has implemented changes, such as supporting RCS and broadening NFC chip access, to address some concerns. The outcome of these settlement talks, influenced by a political push for resolution under the current DOJ leadership, remains uncertain.
