Apple Confirms watchOS 27 Supports Series 9 After List Error

Apple's watchOS 27 compatibility list caused confusion when it omitted the Apple Watch Series 9, leaving users of that model thinking they'd be excluded from the update. The official website initially showed support for Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3 only, suggesting older models would lose update access.

Series 9 owners quickly discovered they could install watchOS 27 beta 1 on their devices, contradicting Apple's published compatibility matrix. Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that Series 9 compatibility is legitimate, correcting the oversight that would have stranded users on an older OS version.

The corrected compatibility means Series 6, 7, 8, SE 2, and first-gen Ultra users still face obsolescence. watchOS 27 brings the new Siri AI app, enhanced workout data insights, and Spanish language support for Workout Buddy features.

Apple's website hasn't yet updated to reflect Series 9 support, but the confirmation provides relief for recent upgrade customers who expected continued software support. The compatibility correction ensures the Series 9 remains viable for another year of updates.
