AltStore PAL 2.3 adds Fediverse social features

AltStore PAL has launched a major update that integrates Fediverse social features, bringing app discovery to the alternative iPhone marketplace. The AltStore PAL 2.3 update introduces federated social capabilities through Mastodon and Bluesky integration, allowing users to discover apps, view likes, and sign in with existing social accounts.

This social web approach addresses a key challenge for alternative app stores: how to help users find new apps and developers. The update includes an explore page where federated sources can be discovered, and developers can opt-in to have their apps shared across the network. Users can now see all likes on federated apps, updates, and news items directly within the AltStore interface.

The timing is notable as AltStore PAL expanded from the EU to Japan in December following regulatory changes allowing competing app marketplaces on iPhone. The update also brings a Japan-inspired alternative app icon and Liquid Glass UI design elements, showing AltStore's continued evolution as a viable alternative to Apple's App Store.
