200MP iPhone Camera Coming 2028 - What We Know So Far

Apple's long-rumored 200MP camera module will arrive in 2028, according to well-known Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station. The resolution represents a massive jump from the 48MP sensors in current iPhones. When pressed on timing in comments, DCS stated "most likely 2028," aligning with Morgan Stanley's investor note from earlier this year.

Higher megapixel counts typically introduce more image noise, particularly in low-light conditions. Apple appears to be addressing this by pairing the 200MP sensor with a substantially larger 1/1.12" sensor (93.2mm²), compared to the 1/1.28" (71.5mm²) sensor in today's Pro models. The new sensor will exclusively power the telephoto lens, which primarily handles outdoor photography where noise is less problematic.

Samsung is expected to manufacture the module, though Sony is actively competing for the contract. This represents Apple's most aggressive camera hardware upgrade in years, targeting users who prioritize zoom capabilities and outdoor shooting performance.
