Blackstone is increasing its investment in artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, boosting its stake to approximately $1 billion. This move underscores the growing interest in the AI sector and the continued fundraising efforts of Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI models. The investment comes as Anthropic aims to more than double its initial fundraising target, fueled by strong investor demand.

Blackstone's additional investment of $200 million values Anthropic at $350 billion. The world's largest alternative asset manager previously participated in Anthropic's last funding round less than a year ago, when the company raised $13 billion at a $183 billion valuation. The funding round is still ongoing, and specifics may change before it closes.

Anthropic has already secured at least $1 billion each from Coatue Management, Singapore’s GIC Pte, and Iconiq Capital. Strategic investors Nvidia and Microsoft are also involved. Blackstone's investment is being primarily channeled through its retail-focused Blackstone Private Equity Strategies Fund. This positions Blackstone among Anthropic's largest non-venture or sovereign investors.

The investment highlights the intense competition in the AI market and the significant valuations being attached to leading AI companies. This capital injection will help Anthropic further develop its AI models and compete with industry leaders. The ongoing fundraising efforts suggest a strong belief in Anthropic's potential for growth and innovation.
