A semi truck fire on Interstate 805 in San Diego caused major traffic delays Tuesday morning after the vehicle's cargo of almonds spilled onto a parking lot below. The fire broke out around 6 a.m. on a highway bridge, completely destroying the truck and trailer. News footage showed flames engulfing the vehicle as hundreds of pounds of almonds rained down onto the business park beneath.

CHP officials have not yet determined the cause of the blaze. A FOX 5/KUSI news team visited the scene at a Mission Valley business park where almonds continued falling from above. The receptionist at Synergy Orthopedics reported that several cars in the parking lot sustained damage from the falling cargo. California Highway Patrol officers were on site marking off the area to secure the scene.

Multiple medical offices operate in the affected business park. The incident highlights the potential hazards of commercial truck cargo spills during highway accidents. Traffic on I-805 was heavily impacted for several hours during the morning commute as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and spilled almonds from both the highway and the parking lot below.
